Fiona McMonagle
Fiona McMonagle was born in Donegal, Ireland in 1977 and moved to Australia as a youth. In 2000 she attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Victoria College of the Arts. She lives and works in Melbourne.
McMonagle depicts figures in unfortunate situations, sometimes with moral ambiguity and always with a sense of uncertainty. She works in watercolour, adding a sense of remembrance to her often melancholic-tainted figures. McMonagle is influenced by the suburbia of Melbourne and this reflects in the characters she paints.
Solo exhibitions include Spare Room, Project Space, R.M.I.T (2001); and a show at Red Irwin Art Dealer, Sydney (2008, 2009 and 2011). Group exhibitions the artist has been curated include This and Other Works, NGV Federation Square (2005); Kilgour Prize, Finalist, Newcastle Regional Art Gallery (2006) and a group show at Heiser Gallery in December of 2008.
The artist is held in the collections of Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, Newcastle Regional Gallery and Artbank.
