5 February – 1 March: Henry Mulholland
An exhibition of new paintings which continue to reveal the artist’s interest in the relationship between abstraction and the landscape.
4 March – 29 March: Geoffrey De Groen
New South Wales based, De Groen’s work is essentially concerned with the painting of shapes into spaces that engage the eye and mind of the viewer.
1 April – 26 April: Lewis Miller
The recipient of the Archibald Prize and 14 times finalist, Miller is one of the country’s leading figurative and portraiture artists. This exhibition of recent works includes figurative pictures along with stunning still life compositions.
29 April – 24 May: Keith Looby
In a career spanning well over 45 years, Looby has won a number of major prizes including the Blake Prize, Sulman Prize, and the Archibald Prize and is recognised as one of the major artists of his generation. This exhibition features the artist’s work from the 1980s and 1990s.
27 May – 21 June: Ann Thomson
An exhibition of new works produced by this senior Australian artist. Winner of the Wynne Prize in 1998 and the Geelong Contemporary Art Prize in 2005, Thomson’s gestural compositions reference in part the antiquity of the Australian landscape.
24 June – 19 July: Sandy Herberte
Brisbane based, this is the artist’s inaugural exhibition with the galley and will include compositions based on the urban environment of Brisbane and surrounding landscape.
22 July - 16 August: Leah Emery and Karla Marchesi
Working in needle point, the provocative and charged images produced by this emerging Brisbane artist clash vigorously with the sensibility usually associated with this traditional and domestic craft. Note: This exhibition is not suitable for children.
19 August – 13 September: Ian Smith
Represented in numerous public collections both in Australia and abroad including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in his latest exhibition with the gallery the artist pursues his universal themes through compositions sourced from closely personal subject matter.
16 September – 11 October: Robert Moore
An exhibition of recent prints and works on paper produced by this celebrated draughtsman. Moore’s compositions continue to engage with their energy and liveliness.
14 October – 8 November: Tom Alberts
Recognised for his rich imagination and painterly skill Alberts’ compositions are both thoughtful and sensuous. His previous series of pictures based on Melbourne’s Chapel Street precinct were well received and this exhibition is much anticipated.
11 November – 29 November: Adam Cullen
Winner of the Archibald Prize in 2000 for his composition Portrait of David Wenham 2000, this is Cullen’s first Brisbane exhibition and follows a survey exhibition of the artist’s work to be held mid year at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
2 December – 24 December: Annual Christmas exhibition
An exhibition of recent works by selected gallery artists.
