Biography

Arryn Snowball was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1977. In 2001 he graduated from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Art, and a year later received First Class Honours from the college. Snowball was awarded, in 2003, the prestigious Melville Haysom Memorial Art Scholarship, an annual scholarship awarded by the Queensland Art Gallery to a Queensland artist aged 25 or under. He is currently studying for his Doctorate of Visual Arts from the Queensland College of Art, and continues to lecture part-time in painting at the QCA.

Snowball’s solo exhibiting career began in March 2003 with an exhibition of the paintings produced during his Haysom Scholarship at the Starter Space, Merlo Bar, Queensland Art Gallery. Later in May of that year his exhibition Steam was shown at Soapbox Gallery, Brisbane. Early the following year in 2004 Snowball held his first exhibition with Esa Jaske Gallery, Sydney (he would again show with Jaske in 2005 and 2006), and in April/May his exhibition Dissolution was held at the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane; later in September Snowball held the exhibition Painting with Soapbox Gallery, Brisbane. The artist held his inaugural exhibition with Heiser Gallery, Brisbane in February, 2005 with the show Recent Works.
